Grand Haury is a hamlet of Arvier, in the province of Aosta and can be reached by car from Arvier, going up towards the church and following the signs first for La Crête, then for Verney, Petit-Haury and then Grand-Haury (about a 10-minute drive). The first traces of the small village date back to Roman times: Arvier was probably destined for agricultural cultivation. Grand-Haury is today characterised by the position of its houses along an axis that goes from the chapel of the small village towards the mill, passing along the oven that has recently been restored and is also used for convivial moments. The houses have almost all been restored and some host tourist-receptive activities that bring numerous people to the village, where many families from the municipality move in the summer. Of particular interest are the Montmayeur Castle, which was founded in 1271 when Anselmo and Aimone d’Avise received permission from Philip of Savoy to build it, and the mill that stands at the end of the village: an enchanting place surrounded by nature. A short drive or walk (about two kilometres) connects Grand haury to Les Combes: a small village offering a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc, the Dente del Gigante, the Grandes Jorasses, the Monte Rosa massif, passing by the Ruitor, the Emilius, the Becca di Nona and Mont Falère. Various paths wind through pastures and woods and are perfect for enjoying the quietness of nature and for trekking suitable for all. In winter, Grand Haury is strategically located with respect to the main ski resorts in the Aosta Valley: Pila , La Thouile and Courmayeur. Its location allows for diversified choices within a few kilometres to make the most of the different slope conditions in the various resorts.
